?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = 'urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags' />BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – An unassisted goal by senior Jeff Vander Meulen (Liverpool, N.Y.) with three seconds left on the clock lifted the Â鶹¾«Æ· men’s lacrosse team to an 8-7 victory over Binghamton on Wednesday.
The Raiders jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before Binghamton’s Nate Kerstein netted a goal from Matt McNamara to cut the deficit to one. Â鶹¾«Æ· responded promptly to take 3-1 advantage in the first. The Bearcats Brian Chapel notched a goal from McNamara with ten seconds left in the quarter to put Binghamton back within one.
Chapel scored the second period’s lone goal on an assist from Rob Williams to tie the game and the Bearcats went on to outscore Â鶹¾«Æ· 2-1 in the third. Â鶹¾«Æ· responded in the fourth with back-to-back goals to go up 6-5.
The lead was short lived as Nate Kerstein notched two consecutive goals to reclaim the lead for Binghamton. Going into the final minute of play the Bearcats nursed a one goal lead. Â鶹¾«Æ· senior veteran Vander Meulen evened things up with 55 seconds on the clock before netting the game-winner on a dribbler at the net.
Vander Meulen led the Raiders with four goals and an assist, while Ryan added two goals and a helper. Senior Ramsey Brame (West Hartford, Conn.) and junior Eddie Brennan (Hillsborough, Calif.) each contributed a goal and an assist to the effort, while sophomore Brian Robinson (Denver, Colo.) tallied two assists.
Kerstein led Binghamton with three goals, while McNamara had three assists. Brian Chapel scored his first two goals of the season to aid the Bearcats.
Goalie Andrew Jarolimek (Silverthorne, Colo.) had seven saves on the night while Binghamton keeper Kevin McKeown had ten saves in goal.
The Raiders improve to 3-4 overall, while the Bearcats fall to 1-4 with the loss. Â鶹¾«Æ· is back in action on Saturday at Sacred Heart in Fairfield, Conn. Face-off is set for 1 p.m.
