Homecoming weekend was a blast! I went to the game, and celebrated a sweet victory over the Georgetown Hoyas. I also was present at President Herbst’s inauguration, and I surely enjoyed that.
Because fall recess is coming up, my friends and I had to endure the mid-term exam rush. I could tell the atmosphere was quite different; most of the students were hunkered down in the library in an attempt to get the gears of their brains working.
When it comes down to it, Â鶹¾«Æ· students know how to pull through, study hard, and succeed.
Besides all the studying, I was able to attend plenty of other events this past week. I went to see Kwame Anthony Appiah speak at the Chapel. He wrote the book Cosmopolitanism, which all us first years were assigned to read for our first-year seminar.
I think it’s really cool that first-years share a reading together; in that way we start off with a common thread, and a simple conversation starter that can lead to friendship. Appiah was an excellent speaker, and I appreciated that I was able to see him in person because my understanding of his viewpoint is clearer now.
Sadly, I can’t go back home to Colorado over break, though I wish I could. Even so, I’m planning on going with my friend Lwam Stefanos ’11 to New Jersey. That should be fun.
I hear that students who stay over break have lots of opportunities to get out and about. I know that student organizations like the Â鶹¾«Æ· International Community plan events for students who are staying on campus over breaks.
Some of the outings they are planning include going to the Waterloo outlet mall. I wish I was going, I definitely need to stock up on some warmer clothing.
Once I get back, I’ll let you know how my break went. And by the way, I got an A on the exam I wrote about last week!
